The $250-million expansion by Jefferson Health of its Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital in New Jersey, which broke ground in 2016, includes a five-story atrium lobby connecting a medical office building with a 230,000 sq. ft. patient tower.

Unicel Architectural was engaged to supply 122 Vision Control units for Phase 2 of the expansion, including 60 swing doors, 60 windows, and two leaded doors to be installed in the 120-bed patient tower (completed in 2020).

The new tower is accessed via the atrium lobby and features 120 inpatient beds and 90 patient rooms, along with more public space, an outdoor dining terrace, cafeteria, healing garden, and pharmacy.

To improve the patient experience the tower features plenty of natural light and subtle pops of vibrant color throughout the interior for a warm and inviting feeling, along with a lush green roof many patients can see from their rooms.

Designed to replace its aging predecessor, a patient building constructed in 1958 that had outlived its usefulness, the new tower also features modern design including precast concrete paneling, dark gray brick, wood accents, and exterior uplighting to showcase the building’s upper cornice.

The approximately 600 sq. ft. of IGU glazing from Unicel Architectural now provides superior patient comfort and staff control of vision, light, temperature, and sound via cordless louvers between hermetically sealed glass panes.
