Many older buildings have VCT Tile with asbestos. These tiles provided fire resistance and durability, a high performance function that has always been in demand. However as time marches on they start to deteriorate and pose a significant health risk. When this starts to happen, you need a solution.

Asbestos removal is a problem. As soon as tile starts to get removed, particles become airborne creating a major health problem. Health risks include asbestosis, a lung disease, which scars the lungs preventing oxygen to enter the blood stream. There is no cure. Other diseases include Lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Removal requires specialists and substantial expense and time. In many cases the cost reduces or eliminates the economic viability of removal or investment in a property.

There is a solution. We have two products that can be applied directly over VCT with tremendous adhesion and durability. Param is our self leveling concrete that can be applied at various thicknesses depending on your need. It is a custom solution. We can recommend thicknesses and processes to avoid the joints in tile from bleeding through. The basic installation process includes stripping the old wax followed by applying the prime coat that works with our Param self levelers. While the primer is still wet, the Param mix can be broadcast into the primer and brushed in. The result is a hard, textured finish. Then apply Param to create a new, smooth coating that encapsulates the tile.

Once complete the new floor can be dyed and sealed to be a decorative, wear surface or install, tile, hardwood or carpet on the new floor. The process is fairly quick, requiring only a few days with a significant cost and time savings.

When a thinner coat is required, Sgraffino, another of our concrete overlays , can be applied over tile. The process of application is similar. Remove the wax , apply a few coats of adhesive primer and 3 layers of Sgraffino to avoid tile joints from bleeding through. Sgraffino can be integrally colored and topically stained and dyed for unlimited decorative results. Final seal coats create a high performance, decorative floor for a fraction of the cost, time and hassle of dealing with asbestos tile removal.
