Situated on the corner of Leman Street and Braham Square, directly above Aldgate East tube station, One Braham is a new eighteen-storey commercial office building and home to leading technology, media, and telecoms company, BT. The redevelopment of One Braham, formerly Beagle House, was completed last year, with the renovation providing 298,000 sq. ft of Grade A office space and 10,000 sq. ft of ground-floor retail space.
The BREEAM Excellent rated building, designed by architectural practice Wilkinson Eyre, rises to a maximum height of 16 floors above its new double-height foyer and features exposed ceilings, an elegant atrium and two spacious roof gardens with breathtakingly beautiful views of the London’s skyline.
Layered Entrance Solutions
Boon Edam were approached by McLaughlin & Harvey during the renovation of One Braham’s new two-story lobby space. With over 3,500 employees, visitors and stakeholders passing through its doors each day, this project required a door that would seamlessly blend with the glazed façade while reliably supporting traffic flow. As a result, Boon Edam supplied and installed three 4-wing, all-glass Crystal Tourniket revolving doors. Constructed completely from glass with a slimline stainless-steel frame, the Crystal Tourniket is one of Boon Edam’s most popular revolving doors. Its simple yet elegant design makes a striking entry to any building.
Although the main entrance doors had been specified, there was still a requirement for a ground-level security and access control system to ensure effective visitor management. Security turnstiles, otherwise known as speed gates, are highly effective way of controlling large groups of people in areas that often experience overcrowding during busier periods. As a result, Boon Edam recommended three banks of Lifeline Speedlane Swing turnstiles for the main reception area. These were later specified by interior fit-out specialists, ISG, to act as a line of defence near the elevator and lift areas.
Eleven-lanes to Cope with High Throughput
Knowing the estimated building capacity helped dictate the number of lanes needed and in what configuration. Once the configuration had been agreed, Boon Edam supplied and installed 11 Lifeline Speedlane Swings to the east, west and north-west side of the main reception. A 615mm lane width allows the use of two swinging glass door wings instead of one, increasing the opening speed and adding to the feeling of openness within the lobby. Whereas the wider lane configuration allows large groups to pass through, avoiding bottlenecks and providing convenient wheelchair, luggage, or delivery access.
Coordinated Access Control Pedestal
In keeping with the modern aesthetic, each lane is finished in Boon Edam’s premium Business Edition RAL black with blue LED lighting that aligns with the overall colour palette. In addition, Lifeline Boost Pedestals were installed for card collection; enabling visitors to simply drop their access card into the device, signing them out automatically and notifying building management. The card can then be retrieved and reprogrammed, ready for the next visitor.
One Braham achieved a BREEAM Excellent sustainability rating and has been awarded a WiredScore platinum rating for its digital infrastructure.
