The City of Grand Junction, in partnership with Mesa County, has initiated Phase 1 of the Persigo Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion—an important step in enhancing water quality, safety, and environmental sustainability. This upgrade introduces new screening processes, advanced electrical systems, expanded biosolids storage, and improved aeration and disinfection systems, modernizing the facility to meet growing community needs.
As part of the expansion, Xypex Admix C-500 was incorporated at the time of batching into the concrete used for the facility's new water-holding structures. By integrating Xypex directly into the mix, the need for traditional surface-applied waterproofing methods was eliminated, resulting in significant cost savings and long term durability.
Xypex C-500 not only ensures integral waterproofing but also enhances the concrete's chemical resistance and durability—critical in the harsh, corrosive environment of wastewater treatment. This proactive approach significantly reduces the risk of water egress and chemical attacks, extending the life of the infrastructure while minimizing maintenance requirements.
This project highlights a strong commitment to sustainability and resilience in municipal infrastructure. By using Xypex’s advanced materials and technologies, the City of Grand Junction has taken a forward-thinking approach to protecting public health and the environment through more efficient, safe, and durable wastewater management.
