Otis Charles White founded our company in 1894 before the days of electricity. Otis, a small town dentist, discovered that he didn't have the proper lighting to perform his job accurately.

To his dismay, there weren't any lamps on the market that met his needs. So, Otis designed and built the first gas dentist's lamp. The rest is, literally, history.

Throughout the years, O.C. White continued to incorporate new technologies into his products, and the company gained a reputation for innovation and reliability. Our lamps become a fixture in American factories as the nation grew through the industrial era. They even provided light to battleships during World War II.

Dedication to Quality

In 1962, Robert May purchased the company from the White family. Our equation for success remains the same: High quality products and service = customer satisfaction.

Anything made off the premises must pass our stringent quality inspection before it becomes part of an O.C. White product. We are so dedicated to the concept of quality that, upon completion, our employees date and sign each unit.

Leading-edge technology also helps us build comfortable products. For example, we are the only lighting manufacturer to hold a patent on dimmable fluorescent lighting. This revolutionary feature removes flicker and glare and virtually eliminates eye fatigue. Technology also enables us to make snap-in bulbs and arm assemblies that glide into place and stay put.
