As Kalwall® translucent sandwich panels bathe the Aspen Community School’s gym and great hall with diffuse daylight from the rising sun above the Rocky Mountains, students learn and grow in an environment that has been recognized for its beauty and energy efficiency.

The Colorado and Colorado West chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the voice of the architectural profession, each recently acknowledged the school with the Award of Excellence for Commercial/Institutional Construction. The school’s design had previously been honored by the Association for Learning Environments (A4LE).

The Cuningham Group and Studio B Architecture + Interiors, both Colorado-based firms, redesigned the campus, which rests at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Kalwall panels are featured prominently in the school’s gym and great hall, allowing the new buildings to achieve the perfect balance of aesthetic appeal and energy efficiency.

While the museum-quality daylighting™ is ideal for creating a glare-free, private environment, Kalwall panels were also part of the strategy to help the school fulfill requirements for a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification. LEED certifications are granted to projects which have a low environmental impact due to the sustainable use of resources.
