Knauf Insulation debuts newest sustainable insulation and sealing system in neighborhood redevelopment effort.
Local families involved in the 2010 Millard Fuller Legacy Build in Indianapolis are among the first in the nation to receive Knauf Insulation North America’s newest sustainable insulation solution, called the Knauf Insulation and Sealing System (KISS).
Indianapolis was chosen as the host city for the second Millard Fuller Legacy Build, which will result in the construction and renovation of 100 houses across the nation. During the week of Sept. 6-10, up to 300 volunteers will build and renovate 24 homes in Fountain Square as part of the nationwide effort to help families achieve the American dream of home ownership.
Homes included in the local Legacy Build project will be sealed with the KISS system, a combination of Knauf EcoBattĀ® Insulation and Knauf Insulation EcoSeal™, a sealant that protects against air infiltration and drafts, contributes to less energy usage and protects indoor air quality. EcoBatt is Knauf’s most sustainable insulation. It’s bio-based, combining renewable and abundant resources, such as sand and post-consumer recycled glass, with a proprietary technology that removes petro-chemicals used in most other fiber glass insulations, making it better for the planet. The complete KISS system represents the best value available for high-performance insulation alternatives.
Knauf Insulation employees are helping to install the insulation system in partnership with trained technicians from Environmental Insulation, a division of Overhead Door Company of Indianapolis.
It’s Knauf Insulation’s number one priority to provide products and services that conserve energy and preserve natural resources for a sustainable future. The company’s insulation products have an inherent impact on energy consumption; once in use they save hundreds of times more energy than is required to make them.
Knauf Insulation is dedicated to supporting its local community and has many outreach efforts underway in communities where it manufactures insulation. Last year, Knauf Insulation worked with the Fuller Legacy Build during its inaugural event in Lanett, Ala., the same community where Knauf has a manufacturing facility.
“Hosting this year’s Millard Fuller Legacy Build will have a significant impact on Indianapolis and the families that will soon become homeowners as a result. We’re humbled to be part of such a worthwhile community service and are pleased to donate market-leading products and deliver homes ‘Sealed with a KISS.’ These insulation products and solutions will provide energy savings and comfort with better indoor air quality, while instilling pride in knowing only the most sustainable materials went into the home’s production,” said Knauf Insulation North America Vice President of Marketing Joey Viselli.
“Our staff at Environmental Insulation considers this project extremely important in providing quality products and professional installation for energy efficient homes. We are proud to be involved with this home building event to honor the Miller Fuller Legacy,” added Steve Riggs, general manager of Overhead Door Company of Indianapolis.
