Boon Edam’s Human Powered Energy (HPE) revolving door has once again been recognized for its unique, energy harnessing capability. The door was nominated by an editor of Architectural Record magazine and selected by an independent jury for the December "Product Reports" issue as one of the "Best Products of 2009."

Each year, manufacturers submit their new products to be included in Architectural Record’s December Product Reports issue, which features an annual collection of the best new product offerings for architects and specifiers. The submitted products are reviewed and selected by a diverse jury of designers and materials specialists. The magazine’s editors can also nominate products that caught their attention during the year. Senior Editor Rita Cantinella nominated the HPE revolving door, granting it the special status of "Editor’s Pick."

This year, a total of 71 products were selected across a wide range of categories. The HPE revolving door is currently featured in the "Openings" category and can be seen on the Product Reports page of the Architectural Record website.

Boon Edam’s human powered energy (HPE) revolving door was installed at the Driebergen-Zeist railway station in The Netherlands in late 2008 and has since received considerable media attention due to its ability to harness energy from the passage of people.

The energy is used to illuminate the LED lights within the door and a special display that indicates to the user the amount of energy generated. In addition, the HPE revolving door was calculated to save up to 4600 kWh annually compared to a traditional sliding door.
