AB&I Foundry is the largest manufacturer of cast iron soil pipe and fittings in the Western United States. All products manufactured and sold by AB&I are 100% Made In America from recycled material. These products are backed and supported by our team of experienced field sales personnel. Joseph Boscacci, the founder of AB&I, produced brass, bronze and iron castings. The bronze statues on Market Street in San Francisco were made by him. As time passed, the type of castings made by AB&I changed. Initially, the foundry made stove castings for the old wood-burning stoves. As the market changed, AB&I began to manufacture iron sash weights for windows. During World War II, AB&I began making heavy weights for the submarine nets located in every major American harbor. After the war, the Boscaccis looked for a cast iron product that would be required in the post-war years. They settled on cast iron soil pipe and fittings, which were required in every new building and home. In the years since AB&I began making cast iron pipe, the market has changed from five-foot hubbed pipe to ten-foot no-hub pipe and fittings. AB&I was instrumental in leading this change on the West Coast. A Custom Castings Division was formed to produce special castings for individual customers' use. This division helped take the peaks and valleys from our production requirements and allowed us to operate on a steady annual income. These peaks and valleys typically occurred because the cast iron soil pipe was mainly used during the Spring and Summer months. Making the castings and maintaining the equipment requires the efforts of our team members and supervisors. The most valuable resources at AB&I are its team members. Most of our supervisors are people who learned the business here at AB&I and have worked their way into responsible positions.
