ENDURA RUBBER STAIR TREAD SPECIFICATION
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 DEFINITIONS
- Chamfered edges will be referred to as the coved sides of the profile which noticeably reduces maintenance. The chamfered
edges reduce the collection of dirt at the base of the profile, unlike optional designs which have a dirt-collecting crease line at the
bottom of the profile.
- Excessive wear shall be referred to as the wearing away on the average of more than .0035" of stair tread material per year.
- Fire retardant shall refer to either the critical radiant panel test (ASTM E-648) or the flame spread test - Steiner Tunnel Test (ASTM
E-84).
- Installer is referred to as construction personnel assigned to install the rubber stair treads.
- Migrating waxes will be referred to as waxes and a soil-releasing formulation which are chemically and integrally a component of
the products formulation. The waxes are activated by use, continual traffic and regular maintenance to the surface of the material.
- Non-solvent adhesive will be referred to as adhesive which has a non-solvent base and requires no open time for solvent flash.
- Non-flammable adhesive will be referred to as adhesive which does not have a flash point and is classified as non-flammable by
its Material Safety Data Sheet.
- Stair tread accessories will include riser and stringer materials to be selected from manufacturers standard line to match stair
tread color selections.
1.02 INSTALLER EXPERIENCE LEVEL
- Installer must submit references on past rubber stair tread installations or submit proof of rubber stair tread installation training
conducted by manufacturers installation training specialist.
1.03 DESCRIPTION OF WORK
- Prepare surface of existing stairs or landings in areas indicated in the drawings to receive new rubber stair treads, in accordance
with manufacturers requirements.
- Install rubber stair treads, including manufacturers recommended adhesive, in accordance with manufacturers requirements.
1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
- All stair treads and accessories are to be stored in a dry, secure area at temperatures specified by the manufacturer.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
- Components of the rubber floor system are based upon ENDURA specifications to describe function, standards of quality, and
material qualities.
2.02 SUBMITTALS
- Submit product data, samples, and installation instructions.
- Submit two samples approximately 3 x 13 inches in size illustrating color and design. Samples will be used as a standard of finish
and quality for the work.
- Submit cleaning and maintenance data.
2.03 WARRANTIES
- ENDURA shall provide full one (1) year warranty on materials and workmanship to be free from defects. ENDURA will also warrant
their stair treads against excessive wear under normal conditions with a five (5) year limited wear warranty on products.
2.04 MATERIALS
- General: ENDURA rubber stair treads shall be made of 100 percent synthetic virgin rubber (no regrind) and of such quality to allow
for high resilience and slip retardants, plus finely ground stabilizing fillers, high density of fade-resistant color pigments to enhance
color brilliance and color uniformity throughout the material, migrating waxes and soil-releasing agents. These components are
blended, calendered and then vulcanized.
- Stair Treads must be in full compliance with Federal Specification RRT-650c.
- Colors: As selected from ENDURA standard color selection or custom colors. Custom colors require a minimum quantity of 200
stair treads.
- Rubber Stair Treads - Physical Properties:
- Tread Dimensions:
a. Base gauge:
Round Pattern .130"
Low Vibe Square Pattern .130"
Safety Rib W/Grit Strip .125"

Note: For steps exceeding maximum manufactured stair tread lengths, furnish stair treads in multiple
equal length units.
- Profile:
a. Coved or Chamfered Sides: All profiles will be constructed with coved or chamfered sides to assist in the
normal brush maintenance, thereby reducing soil collection at the base of the profile.
b. Top Edge: The top edge or crown of the profile shall be sharp and a precise transition between the top and
side of the profile to perform as a squeegee for the removal of foreign substances and fluids from the shoe sole.
- Profile Dimensions:
a. Profile Gauge:
Round .050"
Square .040"
Safety Rib .035"
Diamond .075"
b. Top dimension of profile:

Square 17/16" (diagonal)
Safety Rib 7/16" (width)
Diamond 27/8" (long diag.)
- Stair nose:
a. Nose design: Square nose.
b. Nose depth: Minimum of 1 7/8" from top of tread.
c. Nose must be slightly undercut on the back of the tread at inner radius of stair nose.
- All stair treads must have fully sanded backs and nosings.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 STAIR PREPARATION
- General: Perform cleaning and preparation of stairs in compliance with ENDURA installation instructions.
- Conduct moisture test if stairs are new concrete pan filled steps.
- Conduct an adhesion test as recommended.
- Cracks, depressions, and rough areas should be cleaned and filled with cementitious leveling compound or ENDURA
Bond with no less than 2,500 psi rating when fully cured. Leveling compound must not be gypsum or latex based.
3.02 APPLICATION
- General: Install ENDURA rubber stair treads in strict compliance with installation instructions.
- During the period of 24 hours before the installation, the substrate temperature should be at 72°F and must not be
colder than 59°F or warmer than 85°F.
- Once brought to ambient temperature, install the pre-fitted stair treads and accessories so that all stair treads fit snugly
against each steps nose.
- Adhere treads to steps utilizing ENDURAs recommended adhesives. Proper trowel size must be used. Material
must be rolled with roller per installation instructions.
3.03 CURING, CLEANING AND PROTECTION
- Immediate foot traffic is permitted after installation of treads using ENDURA PRENE 565 Contact Adhesive. Protect
rubber stair treads materials from damage or abuse during construction operations.
- After installation, clean rubber stair treads just prior to final inspection using materials and procedures recommended
by floor manufacturer.
