XLS200 Life Safety System |
SPECIFICATION DATA |
Features
|
GENERAL The XLS200 is a pre-configured, stand-alone microprocessor-based life safety system. It is ideally suited to meet the requirements of medium-sized buildings such as offices, hospitals, schools, and malls. The panel has a 250-point capacity and the capability to network to other panels making it equally suited to a multi-building or campus-style complex. The XLS200 System supports the Signature Series detection devices, each of which incorporates its own microprocessor. The detector family is comprised of both single-element sensing (photoelectric, ionization, and thermal) as well as various combinations of these sensing technologies in a single unit to provide unprecedented levels of protection. |
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) operator interface provides eight lines of 21 characters (168 total characters) to annunciate system activity in a text format that is especially useful in an emergency situation. In addition to date, time, and alarm history count, the LCD is capable of displaying both the first highest priority event and the most recent highest priority event simultaneously. This allows the operator to view current event information while at the same time being aware of new alarms coming into the system. The System Definition Utility (SDU) software is a Microsoft® Windows-based program that allows the programmer to quickly create project-specific system software at the job site. The SDU defines the system components; characterizes all input/output relationships including time-event sequences; and establishes system responses that are mandated by local code. |
DESCRIPTION
The XLS200 Life Safety System is comprised of a microprocessor-based, pre-configured, modular controller and an intelligent initiating circuit of up to 250 Signature Series detection devices designed to meet the stand-alone needs of medium-sized buildings. Optional networking capability makes the system suitable for multi-building complexes as well.
The XLS200 panel consists of a Central Processor Unit (CPU) that provides a mounting base for installing the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) operator interface, one Signature Data Loop Controller module with one intelligent loop board and a 120 Vac Power Supply and monitor. A dead-front plate and outer door is also provided that will protect the electronics. This assembly is suitable for mounting in an XLS200B series backbox which may be ordered separately.
This standard panel configuration is available as well with a 230 Vac Power Supply for international locations. Specify XLS200-2. See the Ordering section in this sheet for details.
The backbox is suitable for flush, semi-flush, or surface wall mounting.
System Components:
The XLS200 is housed in a wall box that can contain a variety of system components.
The housing can be mounted flush (set back within a wall), semi-flush (partially set into a wall), or on a wall surface. The Local Rail Modules provide a base for installation of the LCD Operator Interface and optional Control Display Modules. The Inner Door Cover and Outer Door Cover protect the components and provide an attractive finish to the system.
LCD Operator Interface:
The LCD Operator Interface provides simple-to-understand lights (LEDs) and switches to help operators execute system commands with confidence during an
emergency situation. Common control switches and LEDs include (at minimum) a Reset switch and LED; Alarm Silence switch and LED; Panel Silence switch and
LED; and Drill switch and LED. Eight lines of 21 characters (168 characters total) display emergency information in a useful text format. The following figure illustrates a
typical layout of the module.
The eight-line text display area shows current date, current time, and number of alarms on the first line. The next lines show the first highest priority event, the last highest priority event, and other information as applicable, so that operators can view alarm data without opening the door of the XLS200.
The LCD Operator Interface also provides a Command Menu for maintenance functions such as disabling alarms or generating reports for use by staff or service personnel.
Display Modules:
Control/display modules provide membrane switches with positive tactile feedback and colored LEDs giving the emergency user the simplest of interfaces.
Control/Display module locations are independent of the underlying connection hardware, the local rail module, to optimize system layout flexibility.
Panel Capacities:
XLS200 facilitates isolation of field wiring with building wiring terminations made on local rail module removable terminal blocks. XLS200 local rail modules include a Loop
Controller, power supply monitor module, and the main CPU module. System design allows convenient separation of high-voltage and power-limited wiring internal to the
panel. XLS200 can operate as a complete, stand-alone system or as a small node in a larger network. Five module spaces are available . The XLS200 panel can support
up to two Loop Controllers (250 devices per loop). The XLS200 panel has space for five XLS local rail modules. Two slots are required for the CPU panel controller
module; one slot is dedicated to the power supply monitor. A Loop Controller is installed in Slot 4. Slot 5 is available for expansion. The 7A power supply mounts in the
cabinet behind the local rail modules.
Signature Series Intelligent Devices:
The Signature Series of devices offers a wide range of single- and multiple-element technology, addressable analog detectors and input/output modules, with up to 250
devices per loop.
Networks:
Using an optional RS-485 Network Board, XLS200 can operate on a multi-priority peer-to-peer token-ring network. The multi-priority token ring gives XLS200 an
exceptional alarm response time of less than 3 seconds across the network, virtually independent of the total number of nodes.
Network communication is via RS-485 serial ports. This two-wire circuit supports Class A or B operation. The XLS200 network meets NFPA style 7 communications standards in the Class A configuration.
Alarm Annunciation:
XLS200 performs Alarm, Supervisory, Trouble, and Monitor operations. Annunciation is through the use of LED display strips complete with custom labels for each LED
as to its function. Where applicable, control of remote smoke control devices is available at the control center. Switches with LEDs provide positive feedback to the
operator of remote equipment status. See the LCD Operator Interface and Display Module Panel figure for an example (previous figure).
Support for a Wide Variety of Fire Alarm Equipment:
XLS200 supports a variety of conventional smoke detectors with a single universal module. It also supports polarized bells, horns, and strobes as well as hardwired
supervisory and monitor functions with latching or non-latching operations. Any circuit located anywhere on the network on any LCD or LED annunciator can be
displayed.
Battery Options:
Available cabinet room allows for system batteries up to 10 Ah. The power supply supports up to 7A of load with one 24V backup battery. Using a remote battery
cabinet, an XLS200 panel can support batteries up to 55 Ah to give the system initial system cost savings as well as providing for continuing cost saving benefits in
system maintenance.
